The hot water stored at a facility is often kept at more than 60°C. This reduces the risk of Legionella bacteria growth in water storage tanks, however water at this temperature or higher can cause scalding or serious burns to the skin.

So it is also important for that hot water to be tempered to a safe temperature once the tap is turned on for hand washing or bathing.

Thankfully, a Thermostatic Mixing Valve can do just that!

A Thermostatic Mixing Valve, or TMV, is a clever device that blends hot and cold water together to achieve a safe, predetermined water temperature when delivering water through a tap to prevent injury. Additionally, if the cold water supply to the TMV is interrupted the valve will shut down the hot water supply to all fixtures.

Another benefit of a TMV is that the hot-water temperature remains constant for increased user comfort. No more fluctuations in water temperature.

TMVs are primarily used in medical centres, childcare and aged care facilities to protect against scalding injuries, thermal shock and the build up of Legionella bacteria.
